Last week during a press demonstration, Electronic Arts showcased multiplayer in Scrabble ($9.99), which will be available in an upcoming update this fall. As it turned out, it’s for local Wi-Fi only, not online as most people were hoping. After all, if it’s only for local Wi-Fi, you’d be better off playing the actual board game.
EA blames Apple for this disappointment, saying that they haven’t made this ability available yet. Which is likely why some developers may have to resort to middleware, such as the recently announced Neutron from Exit Games.
