Joystiq has posted a hardware comparison pitting Nintendo’s upcoming DSi (recently announced by Nintendo in Japan) against Sony’s PSP-3000 and Apple’s iPhone/iPod Touch (first generation). They aren’t comparing games library, but merely the technical specification of each mobile device in relation to gaming prowess. For the most part, the comparison is pretty meaningless. If you’re going to compare horsepower (CPU and memory) then that’d be a mistake, as the different architecture has different optimizations and pipelines involved, making that comparison a moot point.
Feature-wise, the PSP has a bigger screen but the iPhone has a higher resolution, the DSi has two cameras but the iPhone/iPod Touch features a higher megapixel camera (2MP). Of course, the iPhone/iPod Touch, by far, has more storage capacity.
Massively takes all three devices and compares their MMO potential. OSX Reality recently listed 16 reasons why the iPhone and iPod Touch are better than a Sony PSP, complete with vehement rebuttals from those defending the Sony PSP.
Suffice to say, mobile gaming competition has heated up very quickly.
