Developer Metismo released its source code for 3D shoot’em-up Vektrax ($0.99) to current and new licensees of its Java-based mobile middleware Bedrock. The studio believes that the fully commented code will help demonstrate to licensees how they can develop a 3D title in Java and deploy it to a native application on a range of target platform.
Bedrock’s rapid production environment and device database enables studios to prototype, develop and target their application to hundreds of handsets. Its cross compiler converts Java source code to native C++, with OpenGL ES support, simultaneously deploying products to Apple iPhone, Android, BREW, Symbian, Windows Mobile, and more.
Says Metismo CEO John Chasey:
“Vektrax started out as a 3D technology demo of our Bedrock middleware, designed to illustrate how a title could be developed in Java and then cross-compiled to native platforms and use OpenGL ES. However, feedback on the title was so positive we decided to release the iPhone version of the game on the App Store where we have had fantastic reviews.â€
