Megatouch Monkey Bash in App Store, $1.99

Merit Industries has released the latest iPhone conversion in its Megatouch series — Monkey Bash ($1.99). The gameplay in Monkey Bash appears to be similar in style to games like Nanaca Crash (or Crazy Penguin Catapult, if you want to keep your comparisons within the iPhone realm), in which players must whack a person/thing/animal and make it fly as far as possible. Simple stuff, to be sure, but if it’s anything like Nanaca Crash, it contains the potential to destroy entire afternoons that would otherwise be entirely productive and not at all misspent.

The release represents the second such Megatouch conversion, the first being last month’s release of Lucky 11′s. It also makes a somewhat brilliant connection between iPhone users and bar patrons — a good portion of both audiences has proven receptive to pick-up-and-play gaming, so it makes sense for Merit to take a chance on porting its bartop games to Apple’s platform. Will the gamble pay off?

Merit has hit a wall in the bar top game arena. While it’s products are very good, they are very expensive. Other manufacturers have introduced less expensive products that work well in the bar environment. It makes sense to look to other areas to produce revenue and seed interest in the bar top arena.
