iShoot Developer Gets 10,000 Downloads Daily, Quits Day Job

iPhone Savior posted up an interesting and revealing article concerning Ethan Nicholas, developer of iShoot and champion of last week’s paid and free App Store charts. According to the feature, Nicholas has since quit has day job at Sun Microsystems following the overwhelming success of iShoot.

Released on October 18th, 2008, iShoot initially met with a “just ok” reception, as Nicholas describes it. A handful of downloads later, iShoot disappeared from the charts and fell into obscurity. Following this month’s release of the free iShoot Lite demo version, however, sales for the full version increased exponentially, eventually surpassing the mighty iFart as the App Store’s sales leader.

What’s particularly interesting, however, is that the article reveals the numbers needed for a title to become the App Store’s biggest seller in the Games category. iShoot reached the top spot after achieving more than 10,000 daily downloads — that’s a daily cut of $21,000, after figuring in Apple’s percentage of the take. So, Nicholas is unbelievably rich now, basically. Good job, man.
