The guys at the Finland-based iPhone development studio Cowboy Rodeo have some crazy ideas. Try not to laugh at this one — they think that when you really like an old game and want to port it to the iPhone, you can actually contact its original developers and license their work, instead of just ripping off their original IP and hoping that nobody notices. Isn’t that ridiculous? Ha ha!
Wait, it actually worked? This changes everything! Pinball Dreaming: Pinball Dreams ($5.99) is indeed an officially licensed port of the classic Amiga pinball sim Pinball Dreams, released with the full blessing of its original co-creator and coder Andreas Axelsson. The game was ported line-by-line from the original source code, and offers optional remastered graphics as a bonus.
All four of the original Pinball Dreams tables are here — Ignition, Steel Wheel, Beat Box, and Nightmare — and all play faithfully to their Amiga originals. I’m a sucker for video pinball, so I fully approve of this release and want to see more ported pinball sims in the future. Anyone know if KaZe is still around?
