The early registration deadline for Game Developers Conference 2009 is approaching fast. Attendees have until February 12th (this Thursday) to register at a discount of up to 30% for the conference, to be held through March 23-27 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
This year’s GDC Mobile event (held between March 23rd and 24th) will include a number of developer-oriented sessions dedicated to Apple’s iPhone platform. Some of this year’s planned iPhone talks include the following:
- GDC Mobile Keynote: Why the iPhone just changed everything
“Neil Young, CEO and founder, ngmoco, will bring the classic game makers perspective to the GDC Mobile keynote and talk about why, to his own surprise, he left his role at Electronic Arts to build a new class of mobile games.”
- The Challenges and successes of porting games to the Apple iPhone
“What makes a great iPhone game? What are the best ways to use the multi-touch screen? Why is it going to take an almost endless amount of iterations to get the accelerometer to feel right? Mike Pagano, Producer of EA’s Spore Origins and SimCity, will give an informative and humorous presentation about designing and producing premium games for the Apple iPhone Platform.”
- Post Mortem: Super Monkey Ball iPhone
“As one of the first game developers to release a popular game for the iPhone, SEGA’s Ethan Einhorn, who oversaw the development of this innovative product in only 4 months, will share his experience bringing Super Monkey Ball to the iPhone. Einhorn will share SEGA’s philosophy on how iPhone game development has evolved in the past year, and recognize the excitement and energy building for this category.”
- Get Smart About Smartphones: Insight Into the Future of Mobile Gaming
“As mobile gaming gains momentum with Smartphones revolutionizing the industry, game developers are looking for the best way to optimize their content and drive revenues on these new platforms. Anthony Borquez, VP Konami Mobile, will provide insight into their strategy for future Smartphone games and share his knowledge on the ever-changing industry.”
- Independent Games Festival Mobile Award Ceremony
“The Second Annual Independent Games Festival (IGF) Mobile reaches its anticipated conclusion at the IGF Mobile Awards Ceremony, with GDC Mobile’s Founding Chairman, Robert Tercek, handing out $30,000 in prizes to winners from a selection of finalists in categories including Innovation in Mobile Game Design, The Next Great Mobile Game, and Best iPhone Game.”
- The iPhone Bag Of Tricks
“This session, using the same approach as speaker Guido Henkel’s previous ‘The BREW Bag Of Tricks’ is designed to show hands-on ways to make the migration to the iPhone easier by covering many of the day-to-day aspects of iPhone development. Using concrete code examples, this session will help attendees to build their own code library and boost their overall OSX knowledge to get results fast.”
- No Publisher? No Problem! iPhone for Indies
“Indie developers Adam Atomic Saltsman (Semi Secret Software – WURDLE) and Sergei Gourski (Subatomic Studios – FIELDRUNNERS) talk about their experiences developing games for the iPhone without any publisher assistance. See how direct community contact, cheap hardware, and an open marketplace can help your small team have a big hit, and what that means for your independent studio in the long run.”
