Free App Roundup, March 4th

This week saw the release of several noteworthy free and Lite applications in the iTunes App Store — way too many to cover individually, actually, so I thought I’d feature some of them in a brief roundup. This week’s free releases include demo versions of Enigmo and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, along with full versions of games like Consumed and Fly Must Die!

- Enigmo Lite (Pangea Software)
This one shows up on the paid charts every so often, but I never got the chance to try it out before now. It’s an accelerometer-controlled 3D puzzle game that involves diverting streams of water through a series of obstacles. Looks neat, and the App Store reviews are almost universally positive.

- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Lite (THQ)
“MAY THE FORCE BLOW YOUR MIND FOR FREE!” Sure, okay.

- Fly Must Die! (Syberix Technologies)
Live out your secret Karate Kid fantasies with this (temporarily) free catching-flies-with-chopsticks simulator. Ralph Macchio not included.

- Consumed (Cifri Software)
It’s Othello, so prepare to lose every game at the very last second, if it’s anything like every other Othello game ever made. Still, it’s free!

- Tap Tap Revenge 2 (Tapulous)
I covered this in greater detail yesterday, but I’ve played it since then and can confirm that it is indeed pretty awesome. Don’t know what’s up with all the App Store complaints, though, since I never witnessed any crashes myself.

- Arcade Hoops Basketball Lite (Skyworks)
This seems to be one of Skyworks’ most popular titles, despite the lack of a demo version until now. Give Arcade Bowling Lite a shot too, while you’re at it.

- The Hockey (i4nApps)
It may look like a Game & Watch game, but this goalie simulator is actually based on a G&W clone handheld released in the Soviet Union. Pretty cool that the Game & Watch is seeing so much App Store attention, even if it’s not exactly Nintendo-sanctioned.

- Crazy Hotdogs Lite (Com2uS)
Finally, finally, a free tailgating simulation is available for my iPod Touch.

- Ex-Wife Toss (Inner Four)
This is a game for people with problems.

- PapiJump Land Lite (Sunflat)
The incredibly popular (and free) PapiJump has seen a number of sequels and spinoffs in the last several months, including this accelerometer-controlled side-scrolling platformer.
