PopCap Releases iPhone Port of Peggle, $4.99

It’s here! PopCap’s extremely popular puzzle/strategy title Peggle ($4.99) has hit the App Store, bringing the casual PC title’s unique pachinko-like gameplay to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Peggle for the iPhone features 55 levels of peg-clearing action and 10 different Peggle Masters, each of which introduces new power-ups and gameplay mechanics as the game progresses. Exclusive to the iPhone version is the new Extreme Precision wheel, which allows players to zoom in on the action and carefully adjust their shots with accuracy.

App Store reviews note that the port isn’t perfect, however. Input lag sometimes makes the game frustrating, and there appears to be a complete lack of background music — “Listen to your own music while you play!” is listed as one of the game’s features, so it’s likely that the omission was intentional.

Still, Peggle seems like an excellent fit for the platform — especially with the Extreme Precision wheel taking the place of the absent mouse wheel — and for $5, the package offers up a lot of gameplay. If you’re a Peggle addict, this is a great way to let your obsession creep into your daily life and take over your every waking moment.
