Tecmo Releases Wild West Shooter Annie’s Wild Shot, $0.99

Up until today, console games publisher Tecmo has approached the iPhone platform with a cautious series of baby steps. The company’s debut App Store effort Rio BlackJack premiered back in April, and its follow-up, Girls of DoA BlackJack, arrived earlier this month.

Both games were safe bets, matching gambling gameplay with the trademark sex appeal of the company’s franchise characters. Pending the success of its first two releases, it seemed likely that Tecmo would soon devote its efforts to creating a more ambitious title for Apple’s platform.

Today, Tecmo releases its first original, non-blackjack game for the iPhone — the arcade-style shooter Annie’s Wild Shot ($0.99).

Annie’s Wild Shot offers an experience in the vein of classic light gun games, blending reflex-based shooting gameplay with a cartoonish western aesthetic. Tecmo has built Annie’s Wild Shot around the iPhone’s unique control mechanics — players must touch the screen to blast outlaws, swipe to remove paint splatters, and tilt to scroll the gameplay area left and right.

Tecmo appears to be banking heavily on Wild Shot’s success, as the company has opened an official YouTube channel to promote its release. Annie’s Wild Shot’s official trailer is below.
