Taito’s Space Invaders series has enjoyed a revival in recent years, and the results so far have been outstanding. Inventive titles like Space Invaders Extreme and Space Invaders Get Even have made the 30-year-old franchise relevant to modern audiences, and the series saw its first iPhone entry back in February with a port of the original arcade version.
Taito plans to continue its support for the iPhone platform with Space Invaders Infinity Gene, a fast-paced shooter that combines the series’ classic aesthetic with a variety of new challenges.
Originally released for Japanese cell phones earlier this year, Infinity Gene is apparently a Space Invaders-themed answer to Namco’s Galaga Legions. It looks pretty challenging, in other words. The trailer below shows off some dangerously awesome-looking gameplay — I personally can’t wait to check it out.
