Konami’s Powerful Pro Yakyuu is one of the biggest and longest-running baseball franchises in video gaming history. Since its inception in 1994, the series has seen dozens of releases across multiple platforms, and recently made its way stateside as MLB Power Pros on the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii.
Today, Konami debuts the first iPhone entry in the series, Power Pros Touch ($3.99). Though it lacks the MLB licensing of recent console releases, Konami promises that the iPhone edition features much of the same gameplay that has made the series a compelling play over the past 15 years.
Power Pros Touch features a tap- and slide-based control scheme, a Pennant Mode (simulating 25, 50, and 162-game seasons), and full play-by-play commentary, which may be a first for iPhone baseball simulations.
I haven’t played this particular version of Power Pros yet, but if it’s as good as the recent PS2 and Wii editions, iPhone owners are in for a treat. MLB Power Pros 2008 was the most fun I’ve had with a baseball sim since the original Bases Loaded on the NES, and Power Pros Touch could very well offer the definitive iPhone baseball experience.
