The fabled Duke Nukem Forever may have breathed its last, but fans of the Duke Nukem franchise can get their fix with the App Store release of Duke Nukem 3D ($2.99), a port of 3D Realms’ famed 1996 PC first-person shooter.
MachineWorks’ iPhone port of Duke Nukem 3D features the new “TapShoot” mechanic, which allows for precise aiming and shooting. MachineWorks has also included multiple movement control schemes — a traditional dual-joystick setup is the default, but players may also choose to use slider-styled controls.
Though MachineWorks’ iPhone shooter Prey Invasion met with a mixed response from App Store customers, it appears that a lot of thought has gone into making Duke Nukem 3D a more enjoyable game. It remains to be seen whether the TapShoot mechanic provides the revolutionary iPhone first-person shooter experience that MachineWorks boasts.
