Oh, if only maintaining a verdant garden full of brightly blooming blossoms could be as easy as Green Fingers makes it seem! This garden simulator (and I use the phrase loosely) is a fast-paced puzzle game that, like any addictive game, is both simple in concept and challenging in later levels of gameplay.
Players start off with five empty pots at the bottom of the screen, while gardening ingredients like water, sunlight, and bees fall from the top. Each pot needs a specific ingredient, so players must slide pots from one spot to another to place them under the matching falling object.
The game is great at introducing new players to the gameplay mechanics by using arrows to show which pots should be switched. After a few rounds, those arrows disappear, and the player is left to their own cunning. That’s where the action begins.
The game is deceptively simple at first, but as soon as ingredients start falling one after another, things quickly get hectic. There’s one part of the game where the player has to move pots under the correct ingredients, then there’s the other, deeper part, where thinking ahead to minimize on pot movements really pays off. The intuitive controls (use of a finger to slide pots around) really help when things get frantic.
One thing in the game that caught my eye was the percentage complete message, which displays in the main menu. It may be a small feature for a fast-paced puzzle game that most people will overlook, but I appreciated it as a goal to strive toward.
Green Fingers is an easy game to pick up and play. It isn’t very sound-dependent, which makes it perfect to whip out when riding the bus or on a plane. The premise is simple, but the achievements and high scores may prove enticing to players who like that in a game.
