EA Sports has released the first iPhone edition in its yearly FIFA soccer sim franchise. Remarkably, the iPhone port of FIFA 10 ($9.99) is the first edition of this year’s FIFA game to see release in North America — versions for other consoles and portable platforms are not scheduled for U.S. release until later this month.
FIFA arrives on the iPhone with 30 officially licensed leagues, for a total of 570 teams and 12,760 team members based on real-world players. The iPhone port of FIFA 10 includes two different control schemes, which allow players to use either touch screen or accelerometer input for character movement.
Also new to the FIFA series is FIFA 10′s “Be a Pro” mode, which allows players to create a custom character and upgrade his stats throughout multiple seasons. These innovations, combined with a head-to-head WiFi multiplayer mode, make FIFA 10 one of the most feature-rich soccer sims the App Store has seen so far.
