Flower Garden creator Noel Llopis, recognizing that many fellow developers would be present at the 360iDev conference held in Denver earlier this week, suggested the possibility of holding a game jam — a challenge to code a full game in one night — during the event.
Three days later, a group of more than 20 sleep-deprived developers had created 17 new iPhone game projects in 10 hours.
The call attracted developers from Riptide Games, Streaming Colour Studios, and Team Phobic, among many others. Most participants expressed a desire to bring their creations to the App Store at a later date, after adding necessary features and improvements.
Hippo High Dive from Imangi Studios puts players in control of a cartoon hippo as it dives into a pool of water, passing through flaming hoops during its descent.
Team Phobic’s Amoeba Wars is a real-time multiplayer strategy game in which player-controlled amoebas harvest resources and attack enemies with viruses and parasites.
A collaboration between members of Pyro Monkey Productions, Crucial Games, and Riptide Games resulted in Gravity Sling, a game in which players must use the gravity of nearby planets to guide a lost astronaut to safety.
UpDown is a puzzle title from Streaming Colour’s Owen Goss, who participated in the event via webcam. Using a series of brushes, players must make a playfield full of numbered tiles add or subtract to reach the number zero.
