Touch Foo is a new face in the App Store, and its debut iPhone title is something special indeed. Soosiz ($1.99) is a side-scrolling hop-and-bop platformer with a planet-hopping mechanic borrowed from Super Mario Galaxy.
Soosiz starts off like any other platformer — on-screen buttons control left and right movement, and you can jump to clear gaps and destroy enemies.
Soon, though, you’ll learn that walking off the edge of a platform won’t necessarily kill you. Gravity will hold your character in place as he walks across smooth surfaces, and overhead platforms can be reached by jumping toward them. The screen will then rotate to account for the shift in gravity.
It’s a gameplay setup similar to Super Mario Galaxy, but it works surprisingly well in Soosiz’s 2D environments. The well-done soundtrack and smooth animation give it plenty of aesthetic appeal, too. Touch Foo has announced that Soosiz will be available for $1.99 for a limited time, after which it will rise in price to $2.99.
