The sniper genre reached its saturation point quickly on the iPhone, thanks to an early influx of titles that differed little from one another. Though games like Marine Sharpshooter manage to reach the charts every so often, the App Store no longer introduces multiple sniper sims on a daily basis, as was once the case.

Com2uS injects new life into the sniper genre with the release of Sniper vs. Sniper Online ($4.99), adding a new element of suspense to a standard gameplay formula with an online multiplayer mode.

Sniper vs. Sniper places a competing sniper behind a random window of a building directly across from the player. By tilting the iPhone, you’ll scan the building with a pair of binoculars, in hopes of locating the enemy sniper before he finds you. Squeeze off a fatal shot first, and you win.

The clever gameplay setup adds a new layer of intensity, and the competitive aspect is enhanced with in-game voice chat and a selection of prerecorded taunts. Sniper vs. Sniper also includes a local competitive mode, along with a single-player campaign that challenges players to take down as many AI-controlled snipers as possible in a set amount of time.
