SNK Playmore Premieres in App Store with Metal Slug Touch

metalslugtouch

Noted arcade and console games publisher SNK Playmore has released its first title for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Metal Slug Touch ($4.99) is a heavily modified version of SNK’s flagship shooter franchise, featuring a radically different control scheme and new gameplay mechanics.

Previous Metal Slug titles saw players running and gunning through a series of side-scrolling levels and occasionally piloting heavily armored vehicles. These vehicles are the focal point of Metal Slug Touch’s gameplay — the game contains no on-foot sequences, and your main weapon fires automatically.

The result is a somewhat simplified take on the series — one that could be better suited to the iPhone’s capabilities. Players control the Metal Slug and Slug Flyer using the iPhone’s accelerometer, with an on-screen button triggering alternate fire. An “avoid” button enables temporary invincibility for tricky segments.

A straight port of any previous Metal Slug game would be a poor match for a virtual d-pad, so it’s great to see SNK put forth the effort toward making an enjoyable experience for iPhone owners. Will their efforts pay off?

Is that a joke ?
The iphone version is a crap, ultra simplified version of the original game. After The Settlers, NOVA, Rogue Planet, Sim city, and so and so, how can you say that a simplistic version of this game is an enjoyable experience ?
non sense for me.

Man, however poorly this turned out (and, apparently, it’s pretty disappointing), it’s got to be better than playing regular one-hit-death Metal Slug with a virtual d-pad.

“it’s got to be better than playing regular one-hit-death Metal Slug with a virtual d-pad.”

Why ?
NOVA has got a virtual d-pad. That’s fully playable.
EJ too, and others…
It’s not the better solution but it’s far better than release a crap game.
