Keita Takahashi’s famed Katamari Damacy series continues to live on despite his lack of involvement with the franchise’s most recent entries, with sequels appearing for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and even our beloved iPhone.
Today, Takahashi’s digital playground Noby Noby Boy ($1.99) arrives in the App Store. It’s…uh…well, the following promotional video should explain everything.
Wait, that didn’t help at all. Man, this is hard.
Noby Noby Boy is a game about stretching a little worm-like fellow (named BOY) as far as possible. It’s fun. You can either stretch BOY manually in the application itself, or you can enable a GPS tracking mode, which virtually stretches him as far as the length of your daily travels.
What’s the point of all this stretching? Every player’s growth is uploaded to BOY’s outer space counterpart GIRL. As GIRL grows, she’ll reach other planets in our solar system. This is a good thing.
Noby Noby Boy includes many more features, all of which serve to promote “productivity and relaxation.” You can write messages on BOY’s stretched body and share them with friends via e-mail. You can turn BOY into a virtual analog clock. You can link with Facebook and brag to your friends about how much stretching you’ve done. It all amounts to silly fun in the end, but what’s wrong with silly fun?
