Australian hardware manufacturer 22Moo has released an updated rendering of the GameBone, an upcoming accessory that will bring console-style controls to supported iPhone and iPod Touch applications.
22Moo revealed the GameBone back in June of 2009, announcing that the device would connect with any OS 3.0-equipped iPhone or iPod Touch. Support for the controller would need to be implemented on a per-game basis, but as the device is currently the only known peripheral of its kind, the GameBone was expected to become a popular alternative to the virtual joystick control setup offered by many games.
The updated version of the GameBone cradles the iPhone between an eight-direction d-pad and four face buttons. The device was slated to feature two shoulder buttons, which are not visible in the updated rendering, and may not be included in the final product.
The GameBone will include an omni-directional microphone, stereo speakers, and an internal lithium-ion battery. 22Moo has dropped wireless Bluetooth support in favor of the new cradle configuration, which will attach via the iPhone’s 30-pin port.
App Store developer Manomio is the first company to announce official support for the GameBone. Classic games in Manomio’s Commodore 64 and upcoming Amiga emulator application will include GameBone support when the device launches later this year.
