Unreleased, Iraqi-Developed Babylonian Twins Finds New Life on iPhone and iPad

16 years ago, a team of students in Baghdad set out to create a puzzle-platformer for the Commodore’s Amiga computer. The game was never released — Iraq’s economic sanctions, combined with Commodore’s declaring of bankruptcy in 1994, ended the project before it could be completed.

Inspired by a recent outpouring of support from the close-knit Amiga community, the game’s original development team reunited to finish its abandoned project. Funded by a grant from Telefilm Canada, Cosmos Interactive was finally able to release Babylonian Twins ($2.99) for the iPhone and iPod Touch. An iPad version ($4.99) is also available.

Babylonian Twins is a side-scrolling action game with puzzle elements. Players control the twins Nasir and Blasir, and must use each character’s unique abilities to complete a series of challenges in each level. A similar gameplay setup was featured in Blizzard’s The Lost Vikings, which also saw its origins on the Amiga platform.

Babylonian Twins includes over a dozen expansive levels across seven gameplay worlds, and features OpenFeint leaderboards and achievements.
