App Store newcomer Villain LLC has launched Archetype ($2.99), a multiplayer-only first-person shooter featuring a variety of gameplay modes, including online five-on-five team deathmatches.
Promising a “high quality console-style FPS experience” for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Archetype encourages the development of a dedicated player base with an experience system that rewards users for online wins and kills.
In an interesting move, Villain LLC positions Archetype as a low-priced alternative to ngmoco’s microtransaction-based Eliminate Pro. Villain promises its players “no tricks and no gimmicks” with its game, with all featured content — including five maps and an arsenal of six weapons — available with a single purchase.
Archetype’s multiplayer modes are playable over Wi-Fi, 3G, and Edge, with all connection types supporting up to ten simultaneous players.
