AppStar Games, an iPhone-focused studio headed by veteran game creators Garry Kitchen (Gamemaker, Super Battletank) and David Crane (A Boy and His Blob, Pitfall!) has released Fling Pong: The Planets ($1.99), an space-themed action game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. An enhanced iPad edition ($2.99) is also available.
In Fling Pong, players swipe downward to bounce a series of ping-pong balls at a scrolling planetary backdrop. Points are awarded when a ball enters a planet-shaped hole. All eight planets are represented here — the developers extend their apologies to diehard Pluto fans.
The game has a unique aesthetic, thanks to its detailed backgrounds taken from actual Hubble Telescope images. Fling Pong includes 32 levels and a selection of unlockable OpenFeint achievements.
