Capcom has expanded its App Store catalog with a pair of sequels in its Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Cash Cab franchises.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Gold Knights 2 ($4.99) introduces a new playable character, Perceval, who boasts an arsenal of three weapons that can be charged for more powerful attacks. Gold Knights 2 also features an overhauled game engine, along with a tweaked control scheme offering customizable button placement.

Cash Cab: Las Vegas ($2.99) features 550 all-new trivia questions, many of which focus on Las Vegas culture. The game otherwise includes all of the features found in the original Cash Cab title, though downloadable question packs promise to keep the experience fresh. An enhanced iPad version is also available.

It’s a question that plagues us all, and has robbed us of countless hours of sleep: Who is smarter — Ultima creator and part-time astronaut Richard Garriott, or former Monkees member Michael Nesmith?
Ricochet Labs’ free trivia application QRANK has finally given us a definitive answer. Following a grueling trivia battle among a handful of celebrity competitors, Nesmith ranked in at second place, narrowly beating Austin, Texas mayor Lee Leffingwell. The top prize went to Deus Ex designer Harvey Smith, who has proven himself smarter than any living human.
Garriott, meanwhile, languished at seventh place. Tsk.
QRANK was released in the App Store today, and is now available as a free download for non-celebrity non-astronauts. The game allows players to compete with friends in brief, daily trivia challenges based largely on current events. You might enjoy it, even if you’ve never been a member of The Monkees.

Following up on this week’s surprise smash hit Where’s Waldo?, publisher Ludia has released an iPhone adaptation of the popular TV game show Family Feud ($1.99).
Family Feud is a quiz show in which contestants must guess the most popular answers to a series of questions, based on random surveys of 100 people. The show itself is weirdly compelling in the corny sort of way pioneered by The Price is Right, and it’s infamous for some awe-inspiringly dumb answers on the part of its contestants. YouTube will back me up here.
Ludia’s iPhone version of Family Feud includes single-player and multiplayer gameplay modes, avatar customization, and a predictive text feature and automatic spell checker to keep gameplay moving at a quick pace. Just remember: “alligator” is not a three-letter word.

The popular movie trivia franchise Scene It? made a somewhat questionable debut in the App Store last month.
I can understand why the decision was made — you need to go where the money is, after all — but I can also picture hardcore Scene It? fans being delighted to hear that their favorite series was coming to Apple’s handheld, only to be horrified seconds later after reading the words “Scene It? Twilight.”
For anyone who does not care to participate in a Twilightning Round, Screenlife has released its own iPhone adaptation of the franchise. Scene It? Movies ($0.99) includes significantly fewer Twilight questions, and instead focuses on films that don’t involve vampires playing baseball in the rain.
Scene It? Movies contains a large number of trivia questions relating to hit Hollywood films released over the last three decades, and includes a single-device multiplayer mode. Screenlife promises hours of “movie clips, images and custom puzzles designed to take full advantage of the latest iPhone features.”

Trivia apps are usually the bane of my existence. Few are worthwhile. They litter the daily app release lists and are a waste of the time it takes to scroll past them. And I have a special loathing in my heart for that one guy who made literally hundreds of applications for individual trivia categories and thought it was a good idea to release them all on the same day.
QuizQuizQuiz ($1.99), on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air in the trivia genre. The game includes over 4,000 questions aimed at North American audiences, and an additional 24,000 for users in the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. It also includes a smart feature that tracks which questions have already been asked, meaning that you won’t find a single repeat until you run through each category’s entire lineup.
They’re fun categories, too. Some examples: “The Hoff,” “Well Known Bears,” and “Music for Losers.” Multiple gameplay modes are included — “Beat the Clock” is a quick quiz that the creators recommend for bus rides, while “Challenge” mode pits your trivia skills against a competing player using the same set of questions.
With any luck, QuizQuizQuiz will prove to be such a robust offering that nobody will feel the need to create another Twilight or Harry Potter-specific iPhone quiz game ever again. And the world will be a better place.

Hysteria Project and My Brute developer Bulkypix has released its latest iPhone title — the trivia game Daily Quizz ($1.99).
Unlike many trivia apps, you’re not likely to see a repeat question in Daily Quizz…or at least, not in your first 365 days of play. Daily Quizz tailors its trivia to the current date, and challenges players with questions about famous events that have occurred on that date throughout history.
Daily Quizz boasts more than 1,800 questions in all, and includes Facebook Connect functionality and a worldwide leaderboard for maximum bragging rights.

Gee, this sounds familiar. Independent developer IMAK Creations’ robust trivia title That Ain’t It! ($2.99) premiered in the App Store today…mere minutes after the debut of EA’s Trivial Pursuit ($4.99). Ouch. Fortunately, That Ain’t It! features a unique gameplay hook that sets it apart from other trivia titles, and may help in its uphill battle against EA’s adaptation of Hasbro’s popular board game.
Whereas most trivia titles simply involve guessing the correct answer to a stated question, That Ain’t It! challenges players to pick an incorrect answer from a batch of correct responses. 777 questions are included across multiple categories (with more to come in future updates), and the game tracks and rewards cumulative winnings with unlockable gameplay modes.
Trivial Pursuit takes a more straightforward question-and-answer approach, but features 3,500 questions in all, including 600 picture questions. Trivial Pursuit also includes online multiplayer via WiFi for up to four players, and allows up to six players to participate in local pass-and-play multiplayer gameplay.
It’s likely that Trivial Pursuit will emerge as the more popular trivia game among today’s releases, but for those looking for something that stands out in a crowded genre, That Ain’t It! could be worth checking out.

NBC’s well-known TV trivia show 1 vs. 100 ($4.99) comes to the iPhone and the iPod Touch this week, courtesy of Gameloft. This game pits you, “the one,” against a mob of 100 contestants in a bloodthirsty grudge match for exciting cash prizes.
Gameloft’s adaptation is a full-scale simulation of the game show, only without any real-life cash prizes. The object is to stump the mob with difficult multiple-choice questions, which you must also answer correctly yourself. Every member of the mob who answers incorrectly is eliminated after each round, and the prize jackpot increases. Eliminate every member of the mob and you’re a millionaire! Well, your iPhone will think that you’re a millionaire, anyway.
1 vs. 100 features over 1,000 trivia questions, ensuring a new challenge with every replay. More details and screenshots are at Gameloft’s website.
